Ask U.S. Catholic Bishops President Timothy Dolan to Disassociate from the Catholic League

William Donohue, president of the "Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights," is one of the most polarizing and divisive figures in the U.S. Catholic community. So why is the newly elected leader of the U.S. Catholics Bishops praising him? On December 16, 2010, bishops' conference president Archbishop Timothy Dolan wrote a post on the Archdiocese of New York's official blog asking Bill Donohue to "keep at it!"

Archbishop Dolan's comments were made specifically in reference to the Catholics League's recent attack on a controversial exhibit at the Smithsonian. But what else is the archbishop supporting? When Glenn Beck insulted Catholic teaching by advising his viewers to stop going to churches that talk about social justice earlier this year, Donohue actually defended him. Now Donohue is stepping up his efforts to politicize Christmas. Recently he sent tabletop nativity scenes to the governors of all 50 states and then threatened to attack those who wouldn't display them in the capitol buildings.

We need to send Archbishop Dolan a strong message that Bill Donohue's antics are not something for Catholics to be proud of. You can use the form below to email Archbishop Dolan directly. Just review the message text, edit the language to your liking, fill in your name and email address, and click "send." We'll take care of the rest.
