That's what Western Pennsylvania's faith community is asking in light of ongoing vicious attacks on Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper. The attackers - including the Republican Party, Family Research Council, and other so-called pro-life groups - are spreading misinformation about abortion funding in the health care bill in order to convince people of faith that Rep. Dahlkemper betrayed them by voting for reform.

The attacks are all about politics. The religious right knows that Rep. Dahlkemper faces a tight re-election race. One right wing group, the Susan B. Anthonly List PAC, recently announced that it will spend $300,000 to unseat her.
Rep. Dahlkemper has worked hard to support and defend the common good and to protect human life at all stages. People of faith, especially fellow Catholics, must stand up for public officials who vote their values, particularly when they come under attack by single-issue extremists.

To the People of Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District:
We support Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper for standing by her convictions and voting to help unemployed Pennsylvanians, to reign in Wall Street, and to extend health insurance to millions in a way that does not allow federal funding of abortion.
We deplore the misleading and partisan attacks on Rep. Dahlkemper, and thank her for following the call of her Catholic faith by voting for policies that safeguard the common good and protect human dignity.
