Catholics Supporting Health Care

Posted March 21, 2010

When we got the word Saturday that the Tea Party activists were hurling racial and homophobic slurs at members of Congress as they walked into the House chamber, Catholics United sprang into action. In just 12 hours, we were able to mobilize 150 people of faith to join in a prayerful peaceful counter presence outside the Capitol building.

When Speaker Pelosi linked arms with Congressman John Lewis to march into the Capitol, Catholics United was at their side cheering them on.

And the members of Congress were grateful. As they walked into the chamber to make their historic vote, many of them stopped to thank us for our positive and life affirming witness. The highpoint came when a number of Catholic members of Congress heard about our witness and asked for some of our signs. A few minutes later, these members of Congress were on the balcony of the House chamber with our signs, cheering us on.

Our vigil was covered by CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, C-SPAN, the Wall Street Journal and many more news outlets. This was a great day for the American people and I'm proud that Catholics United was right there helping make it happen. Click here to see a video compilation from Sunday.

That had great effect for the

That had great effect for the representatives for the passing of the Health care bill. As the same thing you do they too represent their district on this. They feel grateful for your support. These "Tea Party" activists on the other hand are deranged, violent, fascist hillbilly foot soldiers of the worst parts of the American people, and they need to be destroyed. Protest is one thing, violence is another – and shooting the office of Eric Cantor because of his vote on health care bill or health care reform is completely out of bounds. I hopefully the punks who did this get busted so hard that even payday loans won't get them a good enough lawyer to keep out of the clink.

there is reward $100,000 for

there is reward $100,000 for anyone who can provide evidence of racial epithets at that capitol hill "report". Look at the 100's of video cameras at the scene in question. Talk to the accusing congressman's security escorts. Why did the
accusing congress persons walk through the obviously dissenting crowd, rather than the secure underground passage that they usually take, and that the other officials did take. Perhaps they were inviting an incident and were influenced by their own power of suggestion?

At present times, I do

At present times, I do appreciate sentiments through vigil. I believe that all issues were resolved in calm and peaceful voice. To address the issue about the health care bill, I think one of the suitable ways is this. The proof of this is the reaction of the members of Congress, I think peaceful and calm approach is much better. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden already sign the health care bill last Tuesday.

I am troubled that you would

I am troubled that you would cooperate with Members of Congress demonstrating for or against any cause. The right- wingers have done so, I assume did so before the Members who waved your signs. To me, this just escalates the level of animosity that is occurring at this time. I find it frightening. I realize you just handed over signs to Members who requested them.. But someone needs to be de-escalating. Peaceful witness is one thing; waving partisan signs from within the Capitol is completely another. I believe this should stop, and who but us can be the first to do so?
