Ask the Archdiocese of Washington not to Withhold Family Benefits

Recently, the Archdiocese of Washington announced that it would stop offering health care benefits to the families of new employees of Catholic Charities. The Archdiocese of Washington is taking these extraordinary steps in order to protest a new law legalizing same-sex marriage in Washington, DC.

The church's teaching on same-sex marriage is clear, so it's not surprising that the archdiocese would oppose DC's marriage law. What is surprising is that the archdiocese would deny health care to the uninsured because of it.

Please join us in asking the Archdiocese of Washington to reverse its decision. Sign the petition to the right to make your voice heard.

Catholics believe that everyone should have health insurance – regardless of whether their relationships meet the church's standard of marriage. The church does not need to change its theology of marriage or recognize same-sex unions in order to extend health benefits to its employees' families. Please join us in signing this petition.
